Mount Vernon is comfortably furnished with many interesting features. The sitting room has an open fireplace. The library and terrace bedrooms open onto an extensive walled garden with lawns, herbaceous borders and a small orchard.

The immense trees are thought to have been a gift from George Washington when the house was built. The spacious kitchen has a welcoming Aga and is fully kitted out for all culinary needs. Mount Vernon was previously owned by Lady Gregory and has hosted and inspired poets and luminaries such as Yeats and Shaw. The house is alive with the past while fitted with all the necessities of today. There is high-speed WiFi throughout the house, a 32” television with Netflix, and a smart home system including Alexa to soundtrack your stay. The house is available for rent on a self-catering basis and sleeps eleven people in four double rooms and a twin room with a double and single bed.

Mount Vernon was built in 1788 for Colonel William Persse on his return from the American War of Independence and was named to celebrate his friendship with George Washington. The three remaining Monterey Cypress trees in the walled garden are thought to have been a gift from the president.
